“Theresa” suffered from depression. Concerned for her health, Theresa’s daughter gave her information about the CFSSC Walk-In Counselling clinics. Theresa wasn’t sure if counselling would be helpful. She told the intake worker that she had been struggling with symptoms of depression, grief, and loss for quite a while. She had lost hope that anything could make her feel better. The intake worker confirmed that she had come to the right place and spoke about the benefits of depression counselling. Theresa agreed to give it a try.
During the counseling session, Theresa was asked about her depressive symptoms. She told the Walk-In Clinician that they had started about 10 years ago shortly after the tragic and traumatic loss of several family members. The Clinician was able to give her information about how these experiences may have impacted her and reviewed what she could do to begin to feel better.
At the end of the session, Theresa commented that she felt for the first time that with support she “could get through this” and a plan to provide her with additional services was discussed.
