Youth Gender Counselling and Therapy

Gender identity confusion is often experienced by those who feel like they are living in someone else’s body. Individuals struggling with their gender identity may be confused about which gender they identify as – if they are a man, woman, both or no specific gender at all! Often, individuals know at a young age which gender they identify as but most individuals hide their true feelings due to the pressures and expectations of society. Individuals who struggle with gender identity confusion often experience internal and external conflict. Internal conflict may be experienced by feelings of confusion about which gender they identify with and external conflict may be experienced by the challenges of societal norms or reactions from family and friends. These conflicts may cause other struggles such as isolation, depression, anxiety and sometimes thoughts of suicide. CFSSC can help in several ways: provide you with a safe, non-judgemental environment for you to explore your emotions, fears and feelings; help you better understand what you are going through; ensure you that you are not alone. Clinicians who provide gender counselling can help you cope with gender identity issues so you can better understand any confusion around which gender you truly identify with. Clinicians can also help with the process of sharing with family and friends if you choose to do so. Family counselling can be provided to improve communication, address conflict and gain acceptance for families with members who experience gender identity issues.

CFSSC is here to help you to better understand what you are going through and to ensure that you are not alone. Gender counselling can help with any youth or adult experiencing challenges with gender identity. Family counselling can also be provided to improve communication, address conflict and acceptance of whoever is experiencing issues with gender identity.
