School Stress Counselling and Therapy

school stress

What is school stress?  School stress can come from good and bad experiences at school, or extracurricular activities. Stress becomes a problem when individuals are not able to handle an event or situation and become overwhelmed. Sources of stress are different for everyone however high demands and having little control over our work can lead to poor health. How is our health affected? Stress sets off an alarm in the brain, which responds by preparing the body for defensive action. The nervous system is aroused and hormones are released to sharpen the senses, quicken the pulse, deepen respiration, and tense the muscles. School stress can lead to cardiovascular problems, anxiety and depression even burnout. Stress is one of the main factors causing insomnia and other sleep disorders. Other various symptoms students may experience with school stress may include headaches and difficulty in concentrating, short temper, dissatisfaction and low morale. Stress can lead to significantly higher alcohol, prescription and over-the-counter drug use and a significantly higher susceptibility to infectious diseases.

School-related stress can drastically affect your physical health.
